Once again, we are holding a course on thyroid and cervical ultrasound, to which, as always, we invite all health professionals who may be interested in learning the theoretical and practical aspects necessary to perform a correct ultrasound examination of this anatomical area. Family doctors, internists, endocrinologists and emergency physicians, among others, have attended the eight previous editions as students, evaluating the courses very satisfactorily and considering them to be especially useful for their professional practice.
Ultrasound, based on the use of ultrasound, represents a harmless, cheap, interactive, mobile and reproducible tool that is becoming more and more widespread and that allows us to “see” under the skin and evaluate the structure and even the functioning of an organ, as well as to follow the evolution of its diseases and even evaluate its healing process. In a structure as superficial as the thyroid, it acquires an even greater value and diagnostic capacity. If we also take into account the very high prevalence and the high morbidity of thyroid problems, the perfect marriage established between technique and anatomical structure will be understood. We must also be aware that in the neck there is not only the thyroid gland but also a large number of other structures that must be known, both from the point of view of normality and pathology, by the professional who performs the ultrasound. For this reason, and despite the time limits, the course reviews the ultrasound anatomy of the entire cervical region (except for the large vessels) and also presents ultrasound of the lymph nodes, thyroid development disorders, branchial cysts and salivary glands. As in previous years, students with different levels of knowledge and experience will attend. For this reason, the first presentation will remind the less experienced of the technical principles of ultrasound, Doppler (colour and pulsed) and elastography.
Students will also be able to choose between doing practical work with models or, for those who do not need them, learning from clinical cases presented by the teachers. The latter are professionals of recognized prestige in their respective fields of work, all related to the study of cervical and thyroid gland diseases.
